A Personal Story

Submitted: June 28, 2000

Name: Susan
Weight: 125 lbs
Age: 36
Pregnancy Test: None taken
Success: Yes, menstruation started on schedule
Herbs used as an implantation inhibitor.

What was the date of the first day of your last menstrual period?
May 13 before all this, June 9 after.

Do you know the date of fertilizing intercourse? What was it?

May 20

What was the date you were expecting menstruation?
June 10

When were the herbs started?
About May 30

Please include a summary of dosage information.
I took Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) 500 mg every hour from about 7am until 7 or 8 pm, starting May 30. I also took 500 mg of Rutin a day (ten 50-mg tablets spaced out through the day) starting May 31.

How was the pregnancy ended?
"Normal" start of period on schedule. Heavier than usual.

Were you successful in using the herbs?
Yes, I think so. (see below)

Did you have a pregnancy test? What was the result? and when was it taken?
No, I did not. I had a scuba diving vacation scheduled and in my warped way of thinking, if I "didn't know" for sure, it would still be okay to dive. My suspicions were raised by the slightly swollen and tender breasts that I have only experienced once before, and I was pregnant then.

Is this your first pregnancy?
No. First was last year, ended in clinical abortion.

Were you using birth control?
Yes, but was also put on antibiotics for a while.

What kind/method of birth control/contraception were you using?
The Pill

Do you know how/why it failed?
I suspect the antibiotics. It said in the literature it reduced the effectiveness of birth control. I read that too late.

Comments -
It is very important here to remember that I DID NOT confirm my pregnancy with a test. It was solely based on my feelings, but I like to think I am in tune to my body. Since the goal was to immediately make the uterus unsuitable for egg implantation, and all this was done early (before my next period was even due), it is impossible to confirm.

Is there anything you would have done differently?
I'd like to think I would take the pregnancy test, but given the same situation again, I suspect I would still be too scared to know the answer.
